New to unemployment - what do I do?
New to unemployment - what do I do?
If you are new to unemployment, the many rules governing the
unemployment area are highly complex. However, when you register as
an unemployed person and apply for unemployment benefit, the
procedure is fairly simple and consists of two steps:
1. Register as unemployed with the job centre
Registering with the job centre is the most important. You must
create a user profile at Jobnet.dk and then register as unemployed.
You cannot claim unemployment benefit until you register as
unemployed at the job centre. This is why it is important to
register in due time.
The deadlines that must be met to obtain unemployment benefit
are:
- You must register with the job centre on your first day of
unemployment - i.e. the first day that you no longer receive a
salary.
- You must confirm your job search at Jobnet once a week. You can
have Jobnet send you a reminder when your job search needs to be
confirmed.
- You must place your CV at jobnet.dk as quickly as possible and
no later than three weeks after you have registered at the job
centre.
2. Complete the unemployment declaration and send it as
an attachment to AAK
Once you have registered as unemployed with the job centre, AAK
can begin to deal with your case. In order for us to assess your
entitlement to unemployment benefit, you must complete an
availability declaration.
Complete your availability declaration online. You will be
informed as to what type of documentation you need to send us, e.g.
redundancy notice, etc. You must use NemID, digital signature or
your pincode to log on in order to complete the unemployment
declaration.
If you are self-employed, you cannot unfortunately use our
online unemployment declaration. Instead you please contact
us.
Sign up for e-boks
AAK will send your payment specifications to your e-boks.
Register AAK to your e-boks. If you have not already signed up for
e-boks, you can do it here.
Other information
During the first three weeks of unemployment, you will be
invited to a meeting with AAK. Here you will be briefed about the
unemployment benefit rules and other essential information so you
do not risk getting caught out by the rules and thus lose your
right to unemployment benefit.
We advise you to spend some time learning the main rules of the
unemployment system as soon as you can and that you become familiar
with what we can offer. Not everything at AKK.dk will be relevant
to you. Even so, you should click your way through the options. It
may be a good investment to check opportunities and pitfalls.
- Also see Jobmatch for opportunities to be matched to a
job with private or public employers.
